Client Installation Guide

Introduction

Description:

Premium Pro® Enterprise is a Java based program which allows users to enter and process data for returns. This data can be stored locally or on a network server which allows other users to access and process the same data.

The following explains the available configurations for Premium Pro® Enterprise.

Local Installation (Single User Environment):

The Local Installation will host both the program files for Premium Pro® Enterprise as well as the data locally on the user's computer. The data will be stored in a Cloudscape 10.1 database. With this type of installation, the User can decide if and when they wish to update the program files when an update becomes available. At anytime, the user can change to a different database stored in another directory on their computer. Also, the User can change the installation type to a Local Installation With Remote Database at anytime (assuming a database has already been installed on a network server).

Local Installation With Remote Database (Multiple Users Environment):

The Local Installation With Remote Database will put the program files on each of the users' local machines. However, the data will be hosted on a network server, in either a Microsoft SQL Server or Cloudscape 10.1 database. With this type of installation, the User can decide if and when they wish to update the program files, when an update becomes available. However, if one user updates his or her program files, all other users will be unable to use Premium Pro® Enterprise until they update their program files as well. For this reason, unless special circumstances dictate otherwise, it is recommended that the Server & Workstation Installation be used instead.

At anytime, the user can change which network server database they are using (assuming the different database has been installed on a network server). Also, the User can change the installation type to a Local Installation at anytime. It should be noted that each database contains its own specific data set. So, when changing to a different database, none of the data from the previous database will be copied over.

Server & Workstation Installation (Multiple Users Environment):

The Server & Workstation Installation will put both the program files and the database on a network server. The users then run a shortcut of the program file from their own computer. With this type of installation, the number of Users who are able to update the program files is limited. Only the Registered Admin User can decide if and when they wish to update the program files when an update becomes available. Once set up, no user can change the installation type, as this would affect all workstations tied to this server. However, a Registered Admin User can change what database to use (assuming the different database has been installed on a network server). The Server & Workstation Installation is the recommended installation type for a multi-user environment.

Requirements:

If you are planning on using the Local Installation With Remote Database or Server & Workstation Installation, it is assumed the network database (either SQL Server or Cloudscape) has already been installed onto a network server.

If you are planning on using the Server & Workstation Installation, every user must have read and write access to the directory on the network server that contains the program files.
