Server & Workstation Installation Guide

Introduction

Description:

The Workstation configuration allows you to have several clients working on returns at the same time. But all the data for the returns, as well as all of the program files, will be on one machine, the network server. A shortcut to the program file is installed on the client's machine.

Installation:

Step 1: The standard Client installation is performed. The only difference being, during the install process, the directory the user chooses during the install will be on the network server. The user will then run the application to configure the database connection. (Step 1 is only performed once.)

Step 2: After that, all other client machines will run a simple utility that will create, on their machine, a shortcut to the program files on the network server. These users do not need to configure the database connection, as that has been set by the user who performed Step 1. (Step 2 can be performed as many times as needed for all other client machines.)

Requirements:

It is assumed the network database (either SQL Server or Cloudscape) has already been installed.

Every user planning to create a Workstation install must have read & write access to the network server's directory that contains the program files.

This installation guide will lead you through the necessary steps to setup the server for the Server & Workstation configuration.
